Ivan’s beans (Ivanov grah)


Evening before soak raw beans in the cold water.

Fry finely chopped onions and garlic in a big cooking pot on low heat. When softened, add flour and mix for a few minutes until browned.

Add water, beans, and smoked meats (e.g. ribs, bacon, etc.). Salt and black pepper per taste. Cook for a few hours (until beans are soft).

Near the end add a cube of beef concentrate (optional).


500 g Raw beans 3 cups
3 tbsp Lard (or oil, if you must)
2 Yellow onion
6 cloves Garlic
25 g Flour 3 tbsp
Smoked meat (ideally with bones)
1 cube Beef concentrate
Black pepper
